What Is Silica Sand?
Silica sand is one of the mining materials from rock weathering which contains major minerals such as quartz and feldstar. The results of rock weathering are then washed and carried away by water or wind which are deposited in the wild such as being on the banks of a river, lake or sea. Silica sand has a combined composition of SiO2, Al2O3, CaO, Fe2O3, TiO2, MgO, and K2O. The physical properties of silica sand include: clear white, gray, yellow, red, brown or other colors depending on the impurity compounds carried during the deposition process, for example, yellow contains Fe oxide, red contains Cu oxide.
Silica Sand Functions
Quartz sand, which is scattered in a number of parts of Indonesia, has different qualities and characteristics, depending on the local conditions. One type of quartz sand is silica quartz sand with a SiO2 content above 97% with low alumina and iron impurities. Silica sand with a high degree of purity can be developed to meet industrial needs, such as as a raw material for glass, precipitates and making silicon. In addition, the use of quartz sand can be used in the tire industry, rubber, cement, concrete, ceramics, textiles, paper, cosmetics, electronics, paint, film, toothpaste, and others.
